This resource is a 5-Act, 25-role reader's theater script for Sectionalism/ Causes of the Civil War! This product covers rising tensions between the North and the South in the early 1800's. Reader's Theater is an engaging instructional strategy for middle grade students that allows them to act out various historical scenes. The acts are as follows:
Act I: Lifestyle Differences
Act II: New Territories (Missouri Compromise/ Kansas-Nebraska Act)
Act III: The Fugitive Slave Act (And Underground Railroad)
Act IV: The Election of 1860
Act V: Southern Secession (And the Battle of Fort Sumter)
Each act includes discussion questions. There is a quiz for students at the conclusion of the play, as well as an extension activity in which students will create their own script!
