Description
Students will analyze 2 accounts of the Battle of Antietam from the Civil War by answering 15 questions, including comparing the accounts. They will then complete 2 extension tasks. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!
***UPDATED to include an additional compare and contrast task with 7 other brief primary source excerpts for students to reference.***
Sample questions include:
--Inferring from the text, describe the difference in the civilian wartime experiences pre-battlefield photographs and after photographers started taking those pictures and making them accessible to the public.
--What was the status of the battle when Hitchcock arrived? How might it have affected his mindset?
--Explain the meaning of the phrase "presaged fearful work."
--What kind of sense does the phrase "the joy of conflict" make in the context of a battle?
--How do these two accounts compare to each other? Is one more of what you expect in a battle account than the other? Why or why not?
