Description

Students will read excerpts from a speech by Attorney General Palmer regarding his crusade against "Red" in the 1920s and answer 10 questions. They will then complete a short writing prompt looking at the Red Scare from two other points of view. Students will also analyze 6 political cartoons by responding to 4 prompts for 3 images and writing an appropriate caption for the other 3. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate!

Sample questions include:
--What did Palmer mean by saying, “the menace of communism?”
--List 3 societal foundations being burnt by revolutionary fervor.
--Explain what Palmer’s information told him about American communism.
--How does Palmer respond to those who question his actions against “Reds” and the deportations of merely suspected radicals?
