Description

Students will read an account from the War of 1812 of the USS Constitution battling the British Guerriere (when it became known as 'Old Ironsides'), answer 12 questions, and complete 3 extension tasks. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--Why was it important for the American navy to stand up to, match, and hopefully exceed Britain's navy?
--Who was Isaac Hull and what was his prey? Explain the implications in the word choice of "prey."
--Why would Hull have been ready to offer assistance to the Guerriere if it were sinking?
--Detail how this event would have been relayed to Britain’s naval commander and the king. How might those parties have received the news of this defeat?
