Description
Welcome! This three-page Latin root word conversion packet will help students learn the etymology of medical terminology found in the tissues and membranes chapter in their Human Anatomy and Physiology textbook. This activity features a two-column listing of thirty-three Latin/Greek prefixes, roots, and suffixes next to their English meaning. Students will break down the meaning of twenty scientific compound words using the format below.
-
Students first are directed to slash each compound word into its prefix, root, and suffix.
-
Then students are directed to sequentially write the English meaning of each part in between forward slashes on the top numbered line.
-
Finally, students are directed to accurately define the term on the designated lines.
Example: Hypoglycemia
Student answer: Hypo/glyc/emia Deficient / Sugar / Blood
Definition: Hypoglycemia is a condition of low blood sugar.
This document will become editable upon conversion to Microsoft Word using the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC app. It includes a complete key with the answers in blue font.
