Description
Tsar Power
Vulnerable and afraid
Could you survive in Russia During the Reign of Tsar Nicholas II?
In this board game students role-play various personalities in Russia trying to cope with the reign of one of the last absolute monarchs in Europe, Tsar Nicholas II.[1] The game begins at the turn of the century and ends with the summary execution of the Tsar and his family in 1917. Whether a wealthy landowner or a poor peasant; whether a Cossack cavalryman or an Orthodox priest; whether a Jewish skilled craftsman or a socialist revolutionary; whether a lowly factory worker or his wife; or whether a government official or a military officer; Russians were vulnerable and had much to fear in the years leading up to the Russian Revolution in 1917.
[1] Russia took their leaders’ title from the Latin word “Caesar,” which basically means “emperor.” This eventually evolved into tsar. “Ts” is the accepted transliteration for the Russian character “Ц”. Although you often see this spelled “czar”.
