Description

Looking for a fun way to review students for your big exam - like STAAR in Texas? This is a fun review game that covers people, events, documents, treaties, wars, vocabulary - you name it - in Early American History. This game covers content from Exploration to 1877!

All you need to play is small, cheap envelopes! Simply print out this product, (laminate if possible), cut up the cards and place them in the envelopes for each group.

How do you play?

  • In groups of 4 or 5, a student will pull out a card from their envelope and start describing it to their group. (They give "GOOD" clues, not clues that will "give it away.") When their group members guess correctly, the student puts the term on their desk and continues to describe as many more terms as they can before the teacher says "PASS." That student then hands the envelope to the next group member and it's their turn to start describing. This is a RACE between groups. The group that describes all of their cards first wins.

This is a fun way to review a ton of U.S. History in a competitive, active way!

This product includes:

  • teacher instructions with pictures
  • student instruction page (to be projected to a whole class, or printed to have at each group)
  • Over 280 cards - divided into Eras (13 Colonies to French and Indian War, American Revolution, Articles of Confederation to Constitution, New Republic, Monroe - Jackson, War of 1812 - Reform - Causes of the Civil War, Civil War - Reconstruction)
  • lots of blank cards if you choose to add your own.

Why do students love it?

  • They are working in groups
  • It's a race, so they get to compete against other groups
  • They get to "show what they know" and it's awesome!

Why do teachers love it?

  • Once prepped, you can use it year after year
  • Kids are collaborating and making connections
  • The conversations you will overhear as a teacher will warm your heart ***Cue the "they really DID pay attention to my lesson " warm fuzzies.***
  • Highly engaging!
  • You review a TON of history with this game

Teacher suggestions:

  • Store the envelopes in a larger baggie or manila envelope. Label it with the name of the era. This is a GREAT activity to use when you have a few minutes left in class on a random day!
  • Have responsible kids help you cut these out. It does take a bit of prep. I always asked kids from Student Council or National Junior Honor Society to help me prep this activity.
