Description
Narrated by Mandy Patinkin, the History Channel's video Ellis Island follows immigrants of every ethnic background as they recount their experiences traveling through America's "Golden Door."
Part 2 of this three-part video focuses on the immigrants' arrival at Ellis Island and how they negotiated their way through a complicated maze of health screenings and questions about their nationality, whether they had any money with them, and whether they had a job waiting for them in America. Success meant a likely rendezvous with relatives at the "kissing post" and a new life of freedom and opportunity.
This resource, a video guide based on Part 2, consists of 17 questions designed to maintain student engagement and promote a greater understanding of the video.
An answer key is included.
I have used this video in my own class for years as a means of highlighting the immigrant experience. My students have always loved it.
Please continue to check back as I work on uploading Parts 1 and 3 of the video.
