Description

WWII - Homefront Stations Activity - Completely Student-led

Get your students moving and engaged by taking your students through the major topics of the Homefront!

The activity consists of 10 different stations that can be either combined or broken up into smaller/larger stations to suit your needs. The activity also comes with a note page for each station and corresponding analysis/critical thinking question packet. In addition, a link is provided to a spotify playlist created for this activity that can be played while the students work through the stations. My students love when we connect music from the time period/decade to the topics we are discussing in class. The 10 stations within this activity are:

  1. The American Family During WWII
  2. Women in Industrial Jobs
  3. Women in the Armed Forces
  4. Double V Campaign
  5. Tuskegee Airmen
  6. Executive Order 9066/Japanese Internment
  7. Korematsu v. United States (1944)
  8. Rationing
  9. War Bonds
  10. Propaganda

This stations activity on the Homefront was designed to be completely student-led and should be an engaging, thought-provoking, and challenging activity for your students.

I use this activity as a completely student-led activity where students can work in groups of four, pairs, or individually. For this activity, I do not use a timer for each station, but a running clock for students to keep their time remaining in class. I find this method creates a more relaxed collaborative Smithsonian-like learning environment. However, using a timer can also be very effective to keep students on task, or if you use this as a traditional group station activity or jig-saw activity.

One thing to make sure of is to remind your students the day before to bring their headphones to class. The QR codes at each station will immerse your students in short supplemental instructional videos.

This is just one installment of my library of stations activities. You can also find stations activities by decade in my store (links below). Also, DO NOT miss the bundled decades station activity pack and/or the WWII station activity pack either!
