An Analysis of the Victory or Death Letter from the Battle of the Alamo

Texas History students will read the "Victory or Death" letter William B. Travis wrote during the Battle of the Alamo "to the People of Texas and all Americans in the World" and answer 13 questions. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.

 Sample questions include:
--Explain the meaning of the phrase, “with all dispatch” in this particular context. 
--Identify the 3 phrases that would have most made you rise up in support of Texans seeking independence, and explain why.
--If a Mexican soldier had intercepted this letter and read it, what are 2 possible reactions he might have had to it? Explain your thought process. --Is the claim that this is (arguably) the most famous document in Texas history warranted? Why or why not?
--How did this letter reflect the ideals and sentiments of American patriotism in the 1830s? Cite evidence from the text and make connections to American history documents and events in your answer.
