“Civil War - Every Picture Tells a Story’. This is a PowerPoint presentation of 20 slides of Civil War images. The pictures have animation boxes and circles on them for the students to focus on various parts of the picture. In High School, the kids look at the images, and that’s it.
This presentation helps them “read” the picture. Look for all the little things. A lot of social history is included within the images, but people don’t see that. I've included 6 extra slides that contain the explanation for each picture. You(the teacher) can print it out and have it in front of you in class.
This was made for High School 11th and 12th grade US History classes. It’s been used in AP, honors, general levels, and slower paced classes, It works for all. Use it in front of a class, let them pick apart the images before you put up the more focused areas of the picture. Have them do the research on the picture( the story!).
I’ve used it as individual work in computer labs, and have them write down what they see, or explain the story. Use as a preview to a unit on the Civil War or as a review, or as a added lesson to a unit. As all of my presentations, this was used in many classes and it WORKS! Good Stuff!!!!
