Can you remember all the different ways to prompt readers, within all content areas, for all different needs? Likely not. This resource puts several activities and examples right at your fingertips! Simply cut the cards, punch a hole in the corners, and slip on a ring.

This resource contains 40+ individual cards (once cut apart) detailing 5 separate Activities to practice using Context Clues, and 13 mentor texts with a brief summary and a read-aloud link to get real practice.

What: Activating Strategies. Activate student prior knowledge.

Using a variety of engaging strategies focused on activating prior knowledge, with a focus on context clues, sets students up within a familiar context of what they currently known.

When: Prior to Lesson Introduction

Where: Whole Group

Why: Prior knowledge helps students focus on not only what is known, but also what is not known as well as what new there is to learn. Teaching strategies to utilize context clues is extremely important as effective strategies help increase vocabulary, comprehension, and further academic success.

How: Teacher task cards with six different activating strategies that focus on context clues. Each strategy has a brief directions. A list of Mentor Texts is also included.
