There are several comprehension strategies that focus on a particular skill with all needing strategic practice in order to become a good reader.

Can you remember all the different ways to prompt readers, within all content areas, for all different needs? Likely not. This resource puts several activities and examples right at your fingertips! Simply cut the cards, punch a hole in the corners, and slip on a ring.

This resource contains 50+ individual cards (once cut apart) detailing 7 separate Activities to practice Inferring, Sentence Stems to prompt readers and 8 mentor texts with a brief summary and a read-aloud link to get real practice.

Who: Elementary Level

What: Inferring is the ability to understand text when all the information is not specifically written. Growing as and becoming a successful reader includes the ability to infer.

When: Pre, During, and Post Reading.

Where: Whole or Small Group

Why: A reader needs to draw conclusions based on the information the author does provide and then make an educated guess based on what is read and what they already know.

How: Color-coded teacher task cards with six different activities, Teacher Task Cards, and PDF’s. Each strategy has a brief explanation, directions, space for your own notes, as well as a sample of how to incorporate the strategy within any content area.
