Immigration Primary Source Analysis

Students will read an immigrant teenager's account of coming to America via Ellis Island and answer 10 questions. The last two questions have the students put themselves in the shoes of an immigrant today and an immigrant 100 years ago. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include: 
--In contrast, explain what a pull factor is and give 2 examples of it.
--In what ways, or how, was Sadie typical of the new type of immigrant?
--What do you think she would consider her accomplishments to be?
--If you were moving to another country where you did NOT speak the language, what 3 things would you do to prepare for your permanent move? What would be the 3 biggest challenges when you got to your new country?
