This engaging AND no prep activity explains Nelson Mandela's role in ending apartheid in South Africa. Students will read a brief biography of Nelson Mandela's life and a brief history of apartheid.
Each reading is equipped with QR codes that link to primary source videos. The videos allow students to explore the perspectives of the 1957 pro-apartheid government, Nelson Mandela during the Rivonia Trial, and his prison cell at Robben Island. Each reading is differentiated to meet the needs of your students.
Students will use the knowledge gained to complete a one-pager product. In the one pager, students will use quotes and visuals to apply their knowledge of life in South Africa during and after apartheid, with the focus on Nelson Mandela's role in ending apartheid. My students are currently working on this and are loving this different and unique activity. It allows for student creativity to flow.
