Description

Students will read excerpts from the Funeral Oration Pericles gave during the Peloponnesian War and answer 25 questions. They will then answer a creative question and complete a creative task. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.

Sample questions include:
--In what way are the reputations of the deceased not being “imperiled?”
--Explain the purpose of Pericles referencing the ancestors of those present.
--Re-write the 5th paragraph in your own words to demonstrate understanding.
--Where do Athenians find strength? How is that in fact a source of strength?
--Provide at least 2 examples from the historical record to support Pericles’ last paragraph on the first page.
--In this context, what does “magnifying” mean?
--How could a collective sacrifice result in individual repayments?
--Given the opportunity, what would you title the speech and why?
