Description

Students will read excerpts from the 1896 Populist Party platform, answer 21 questions, complete 3 extension tasks, and analyze 3 images according to provided questions. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.

Sample questions include:
--Identify the independence the Populists see as lacking and why that is.
--How has “tyrannical power” impacted the relationship between average citizens and the railroads?
--Why did they advocate for having both silver and gold in circulation?
--Rewrite the first paragraph of the land section in your own words to demonstrate understanding.
--How could a ballot at the time not be “fair?” Summarize the change Populists wanted to see with regards to the ballot. Was that change enacted, why or why not?
--Summarize the main point of “the pressing issue.”
