Description

Students read 11 quotes about different aspects of Reconstruction, analyze 9 images, and respond to up to 26 questions and creative tasks. Some of the creative tasks include writing quotes from the points of view of Presidents Van Buren and Jackson, creating advertisements and museum exhibits, writing letters to the editor, and more! This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate. 

Sample questions include:
--Based on the text, what does Lincoln see as the goal of Reconstruction? 
--Who is the “they” Johnson refers to, and why must their social power be destroyed?
--Do you think this Congressman was formerly a slave owner, why or why not?
--Explain the significance of this quote in its historical context.
--Why was such a plea was being made at a constitutional convention? 
--Inferring from prior knowledge, why were white Republicans also susceptible to KKK violence?
--Would Douglass have said the Civil War had been worth it given his above sentiments? Why or why not? 
--What vocabulary word might best characterize this particular Northern Woman and why?
