Description

Students learn about the events of 9/11 by answering 8 questions from one website. They then answer 5 large discussion questions including but not limited to comparing and contrasting 9/11 to other events, looking at specific items from multiple points of view, making a decision on pre versus post September 11th lives, and more!  Time, technology, and maturity of students permitting, there is a section for students to listen to audio clips from 9/11 and respond to 5 reflection questions. Answers are provided where appropriate.

Sample questions include:
--Drawing from the text AND making inferences, how did these attacks change America from that day through the present?
--How were the passengers on United Flight 93 able to organize and fight back against the terrorists?
--Do you think America has recovered from the events of 9/11, why or why not? If not, what will it take to recover?
--In Bush’s address to the American people he said, “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.” Explain what that means/implies in your own words.
--Explain the the role played by 24/7 news on the impact/effect of 9/11. How did continuous access to images, videos, and reports affect the American people? Should this have been covered in such a manner, why or why not? Discuss any similarities and differences between the American people’s reaction to Pearl Harbor and 9/11 (without and with constant news and information).
--Do the audio clips provide new insight on the knowledge you have of 9/11, why and how or why not?
--Should these clips and transcripts remain available to the general public, why or why not?
