September 11 in Music Webquest

Students will study the events of 9/11 through 8 songs in this webquest. They read the song lyrics and answer 11 questions about the events, experiences, perspectives, and more of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. An answer key is not included because the questions are based on student opinion and interpretation. Websites are provided for students to access the lyrics--for copyright reasons the lyrics are not included in this assignment. 

Sample questions include:
--Can you say one of these songs is the most patriotic, why or why not?
--Is it important that these songs are still played on the radio? Why or why not?
--What are 4 specific references to the events of 9/11 that you can find in the songs?
--Explain how “Have You Forgotten” ties to current events today regarding America and foreign policy. What might have been the motivation in writing it in 2003? 
--Compare and contrast the message sent and emotions evoked in Courtesy of the Red White and Blue and You’re Missing. Which one appeals to you more today and why? Do you think one appealed more to people in the two years after 9/11, why or why not?
