ELEMENTARY SPANISH FOR CHILDREN COLORS ADJECTIVAL AGREEMENT Los colores en español - 8 posters / flashcards These four adjectival agreement posters, with a focus on the color verde, make an ideal grammar and speaking prompt in the Spanish classroom - for example, I encourage children to look carefully at the differences between el monstruo verde and los monstruos verdes. Giving learners the opportunity to look very closely at language, to identify similarities and differences with their first language, as well as rules and patterns in the target language, is a really key language teaching and learning strategy. I use high-frequency beginner Spanish vocabulary to do this, for both younger and older learners. As they build up their vocab, with increasing understanding of gender, they are able to apply those rules and patterns to new language. I use questions such as Verdadero o falso? El monstruo verdes? , really emphasizing, even exaggerating pronunciation, so that they can hear the difference in agreement. I often write the questions on the whiteboard too, as it's equally important that they are able to recognize the differences in the written words too, and to link sound with spelling - all of this means I really make the most from my classroom learning decor.
