This is a library based scavenger hunt on Stephen F. Austin's arrest. I have provided three artifacts and all the clues that I have personally used. This activity has four groups using three clues to hunt down three artifacts (hidden in the various library sections) that they will use in order to figure out why Stephen F. Austin was arrested. I scaffold this activity with all the events leading up to Stephen F. Austin's arrest, including telling them about the letter he wrote to San Antonio from Mexico. My kiddos loved getting the chance to explore the library to find the hidden artifacts, yet still get tons of practice analyzing primary sources.
This lesson can be altered for the clues to lead other places than a library. I just feel a library has more room to spread out.
