Description
We devised this activity to go one step further in our knowledge of conjunctions when using subordinate clauses. This word search includes the 15 most frequently used subordinating conjunctions used to start subordinate clauses, wither at the beginning, middle or end of sentences.
The children must find all fifteen words hidden within the word search. The main purpose for developing this activity was to embed the words into the children's memory. We have found that in looking for words over a period of time, saying them over and over again, learning their spellings and so on, the children then memorise the words and transfer them into their writing.
This activity has proven to be very successful to reinforce learning, revise and embed the 15 conjunctions within this activity, particularly in time for assessment on vocabulary. The uses for this activity are immense - the one thing in common - it has made reviewing and embedding subordinating conjunction knowledge fun for the children, with a slight competitive edge.
Ideal for 4th and 5th graders who are focusing on their knowledge of language forms.
