Description

Students will read about Viking raids, expeditions, and settlements, notably that of Leif Erikson reaching Newfoundland. They will then answer 15 questions and complete 4 creative tasks including want ads, social media posts, news headlines and summaries, and visual advertisements. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate!

Sample questions include:
--Why is “discovered” in quotes?
--Why was something as simple as dew on the grass so noteworthy to the Vikings?
-- Explain this phrase in your own words: took counsel and formed the resolution of remaining there.
--Why did Leif name the land Vineland?
--Where in this account is there the most support for the stereotypical perception of Vikings, and where in the account do they stray the most from Viking stereotypes?
