We developed this produce as part of our Safari Animal Project. Initially as a Literacy Center, we soon found that these supported children in their language acquisition related to the topic and the animals studied, for example, carnivore, herbivore, herd, pack, tusks, horns etc.

Not only that, but the spellings of the children improved through the use of these word searches as part of the topic. A number of the words repeat throughout the word searches linked to the animals. Therefore, by putting the words in different places, and spelling them in different directions, the children were continually looking at how to spell the words, and consequently, in their free writing, spellings were embedded.
