All About a Million - Posters, Flashcards and Classroom Display Support

This activity has been designed to develop the classroom environment.

We have used this to support pupils in identifying the size of numbers when working within a million. The preview shows all of the posters received in the product. They are also editable in terms of colours, so therefore the teacher can change the colours to match the style and colour of the classroom.

We used the posters as an initial activity, providing each child with a number card and asking them to sort themselves into a huge number line, starting with the smallest number and ending with the 1,000,000 card. We then laid these on the ground and conducted the same activity again, this time with the number vocabulary cards - identifying which vocabulary poster belonged with each digit poster. Once completed, we then displayed the cards on the wall of the classroom to refer to through subsequent learning activities.

Flashcards were used in a similar way. We shared the vocabulary cards with the children one at a time - the children had to write the corresponding number on their personal whiteboards and show us the number which matched the vocabulary. When the children were confident, we then used the number cards and asked the children to recall and respond the vocabulary which the number represented.

Both of the these activities have supported the pupils' recognition of numbers within one million. embedding their knowledge of the number "One Million" with fractions of the number, digits within the number and vocabulary of the number.
