Description

This game has been devised using the rules of SNAP! to support children in making the link between digit numbers up to 1,000,000 (and fractions of one million thereof) and vocabulary numbers.

For example:

100,000 = one hundred thousand = 1/10 of a million

250, 000 = two hundred and fifty thousand = 1/4 of a million

The game is easy to play. Designed for two players, there are two different types of cards - colour coded for ease of use.

Number cards - green

Vocabulary cards - yellow

The players decide which colour they are going to play and who is going to go first. One after the other, the players lay their cards down, face up so that they can see what they have laid down. The players keep laying the cards down until the two cards match with the same number and vocabulary. The first player to shout "SNAP!" wins the pile. The game continues until one player wins all of the cards.

This is a fast, fun and furious game adored by our children. It brings the game of SNAP! into the classroom for a real purpose. We have found that our children can link the fractions of one million to digits and vocabulary quickly and confidently. The great outcome is that the children can also play the game on their own as a Math Centre activity, and if more copies are purchases, more sets can be made to allow teams to play the game and have a knockout challenge. The game can also be taken home for a home based activity.

To make the game last longer during heavy classroom use - we have found that laminating the cards keep them cleaner and tidier for much longer.
