  • Distance Learning Phonemic Awareness Final Sound Deletion (Remote Ready Resource)
  • Students blend a word with a final sound (bee + t) and say the new word, "beet". Picture of that new word will be on the next slide.
  • Distance Learning Phonemic Awareness Final Sound Deletion (Remote Ready Resource)
  • Students will practice segmenting with the letter cue for the final sound. They will say "bee ... t".
  • Students will practice segmenting without a letter cue. This is more challenging. They will say "lam ... p".
  • For the final set of slides, students will practice the most challenging skill. All of the slides leading up to these help prepare them for it. Here, students see a picture, say the word, and then delete the final sound. Example, "cart, take off the /t/". Students will say what's left of the word. A picture of the correct answer, car, is on the next slide.

Description

Teach students final phoneme deletion over distance learning! Over 70 Google Slides to help students develop the phonemic awareness skills necessary to become strong readers. This presentation is divided into 3 main parts, so you may begin with the level of support your children need. Students are guided through adding/blending a final sound onto a word, identifying/segmenting that final sound, and then deleting it. Letter cues are added on 2 sets of slides to provide an additional level of scaffolding. Colorful pictures with teacher directions and prompts keep children engaged and actively participating. Play a Tic Tac Toe game together at the end for a fun review. A "try it with your eyes closed" slide is also included at the end for informal assessment. Perfect for distance learning with one on one tutoring or a whole remote class. Just share your screen on Zoom or Google Meets, click Present, and read the speaker notes. NO-PREP! This skill set meets first grade targets for phonemic awareness, but you may use them in older grades for Intervention, Special Education, or with English Language Learners.
