Description

Students will analyze 19 documents (9 are images), answer 19 historical context questions, complete a sorting chart, and write a DBQ essay to review the Populist Party during the Gilded Age. There are 12 prompts for students to choose from (one allows for the class or teacher to make one of their own). The answers are included where appropriate and the analysis part would be great for a sub!  ***Some of the sourcing is generalized so that students place it in the historical context/event themselves.***

Sample questions include:
--Explain what separates Illinois from the rest of the country, and is to the benefit or detriment of Populists per Document 1?
--Describe the message of Document 4.
--Identify 3 items Populists were pursuing from Document 8.
--Summarize the point of view of Document 9.
--Would Laughlin consider voting for a Populist political candidate, why or why not?
--In your own words, why does Document 16 oppose the Populist movement?
--Does Document 18 illustrate more continuity or more change in American politics and why?
--Summarize a cause and effect of Document 19.
