Description
Challenge your students with their knowledge of Plymouth Colony and the Pilgrims.
Students will learn about the history of Plymouth and debate whether Plymouth Rock was the actual landing spot of the Pilgrims through analysis of primary and secondary sources. The lesson begins with an inquiry method riddle. The class must work as a team to ask yes or no questions to solve the riddle. Next, the class will read about the history of Plymouth Colony and use a graphic organizer to assist recording historical information. Pairs will then examine primary and secondary sources about the credibility of Plymouth Rock being the actual landing spot of the Pilgrims as they came ashore.
The class will participate in a four corners activity in which the class will discuss and debate Plymouth Rock authenticity. Finally, students will compose an argumentative essay on the authenticity of Plymouth Rock.
