Description
Students will read and analyze excerpts from Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God and 3 quotes from the First Great Awakening by answering 19 questions and completing 2 creative tasks. They will then analyze a political cartoon according to 2 prompts. Depending on your students you can divide the texts and questions into primary source analysis stations around your classroom.
This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.
Sample questions include:
--What does Edwards identify as being people’s saving grace from the depths of hell?
--Why would people be so susceptible to the pull of hell if not for God’s intervention?
--Explain the significance of Edwards’ phrase, “than a spider’s web would have to stop a falling rock.”
--How would you describe the relationship between God and colonists based per Edwards?
--Citing evidence from the text, was Cole persuaded by Whitefield’s preaching, why or why not?
--Why had some in the assembly been distressed?
