Description

Students will read excerpts from the Virginia Resolutions of 1798 and Kentucky Resolutions of 1799 from John Adams' presidency, define or provide synonyms for 10 vocabulary terms, answer 20 questions, and complete a creative task. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate!

Sample questions include:
--Citing from the text, what is the “progress of evil” and what is a state’s responsibility in that situation?
--Write a word, or phrase, that could refer to the “spirit being manifested by the federal government” and explain why you chose that phrase.
--Does this resolution sufficiently oppose the Alien and Sedition Acts, why or why not?
--What motived the initial publication of the Kentucky Resolution?
--Explain the right that states have in the current situation. Why do the Kentucky representatives assert that they have it?
--Compare and contrast the message and emotional appeal of the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions. Is one more effective than the other, why or why not?
