Description

Students will read excerpts of Hamilton’s Federalist No. 1 and excerpts of a letter from Jefferson to Madison regarding the proposed Constitution. They will answer 25 questions and respond to 3 comprehension prompts/tasks. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
—Why does Hamilton think a new Constitution is preferable to revamping the current government?
—Provide a contextually appropriate definition or synonym for, “candor.”
—Citing evidence from the text, does Hamilton support the proposed Bill of Rights, why or why not?
—Explain a parallel between Hamilton’s 7th paragraph and modern day politics.
—How does Hamilton characterize political parties?
—If this statement were in the text, “or whether they are forever destined to depend for their political constitutions on accident and force” where would it fit best and why?
—Summarize the historical context of the “late rebellion” Jefferson references.
—Explain three connections from the historical context as to why the men agreed on those items.
