Description

History of Video Game and Music

This lesson and supporting resources provide an extremely detailed account of Video Game history and the development of music for consoles and games. It covers from very early Pre First Generation all the way through to the modern, latest 9th Generation consoles and games released in 2020. The material in these resources would easily cover 4 to 5 lessons over roughly 5 or 6 weeks. This resource would also work very well with the History of Sound in Film-Full Lesson, which details the history of how the sound was introduced and added to films. Moreover, would work really well with "Sound Design in Video Games-FULL LESSON", a great set of lessons that cover how and why sounds are important to the player’s experiences and what they provide in terms of feedback and game immersion.

All material, presentations and worksheets, within this resource has been recently updated and now includes links to online 'Distance Learning' versions through Google Slides™. This allowing extra flexibility and continued support if students are learning and engaging from outside the classroom at home.

'History of Video Game and Music' presentation covers the development of music written for computer games and how this changed over time with a total of 70 slides. Moreover, there are over 50 embedded videos throughout the lesson linking to YouTube and providing an excellent addition to the resource.

This resource also comes with 5 classroom tasks that can be completed alongside the lesson/presentation and integrated videos and will aid learning and revision for learners. Part of this is a very interactive lesson where a student can make their own Video Game Music. No Software or extras needed to complete, just internet access.

Each of these Tasks comes in a “Not Styled”, black and white print out or an attractive, “Styled” version to help engage learners.

This resource also comes with an infographic resource to aid learning. This covering some interesting facts on gaming. Along with a brief outline of each of the gaming generations covered in the presentation. Great for student revision and could be used as support while the presentation is being made.

Finally, there is also a “Classic Chiptune” presentation that highlights and showcases some of the most iconic 8 and 16 Bit Songs from the Chiptune genre. This also comes with examples embedded in the presentation to aid learning and saving time for the teacher.
