Music and Politics - FULL LESSON

The Music Espionage -

This lesson and supporting resources provide an extremely detailed account of how Politics and Music often work closely together and how artists, bands, and musicians have used their music to draw attention to important issues. Music’s influential power and its ability to communicate a message to the listener, means songwriters have turned to their craft when confronted with social and political unjustness throughout history. Composers have used it to highlight perceived inequities of the day and draw attention to important issues.

All material, presentations and worksheets, within this resource has been recently updated and now includes links to online 'Distance Learning' versions through Google Slides™. This allowing extra flexibility and continued support if students are learning and engaging from outside the classroom at home.

This resource is closely related and connects extremely well with other lectures and resources from within the bundle; “Music and Sound within Society”, lessons like “Generations and Their Music”, "Music in Society", "Music Censorship" and “Culture Industry”.

This detailed lecture/presentation, along with all the learning resources would provide a great outline of music’s important role within different aspects of political issues and how music is used to send a “message” to those that govern.

The material in this resource would easily cover 1 to 2 lessons, with a detailed presentation that also has a classroom task and worksheet for learners to complete throughout the lesson or as a homework task. Moreover, the presentation has more than 25 slides, many with embedded YouTube links to aid learning and used for examples.

This resource also comes with 2 classroom tasks and research exercises that can be completed alongside the lesson/presentation or used for additional homework or for supporting class projects on this subject. Each of these Tasks come in a “No Style”, black and white print out or an attractive, “Styled” version to help engage learners.

Finally, there is the presentation in video format. This can be used to aid learning, shared with smartphones and tablets, and used as a convenient resource for learners to watch back and revisit the presentation.
