Music Censorship - FULL LESSON

This lesson and supporting resources provide an extremely detailed account of Music Censorship throughout the ages and some great examples as to why certain pieces of music may be censored. Music Censorship refers to the practice of editing of musical works; basically, changing it somehow so that it is different from the original composition or arrangement. This might be because of offensive language for younger audiences, the theme and subject matter that the song is about, and a great many more variety of motivations, including moral, political, or religious reasons.

All material, presentations and worksheets, within this resource has been recently updated and now includes links to online 'Distance Learning' versions through Google Slides™. This allowing extra flexibility and continued support if students are learning and engaging from outside the classroom at home.

This resource is closely related and connects extremely well with other lectures and resources from within the bundle; “Music and Society- MEGA BUNDLE”, lessons like “Generations and Their Music”, "Music in Society", "Music and Politics" and “Culture Industry”.

This detailed lecture/presentation, along with all the learning resources would provide a great outline of music censorship and a detailed account as to why some songs may be banned or edited.

The material in this resource would easily cover 1 to 2 lessons, with a detailed presentation that also has a classroom task and worksheet for learners to complete throughout the lesson or as a homework task. Moreover, the presentation has more than 30 slides, many with embedded YouTube links to aid learning and used for examples.

This resource also comes with 5 classroom tasks and research exercises that can be completed alongside the lesson/presentation or used for additional homework or for supporting class projects on this subject. Each of these Tasks come in a “No Style”, black and white print out or an attractive, “Styled” version to help engage learners.

Finally, this resource also comes with a really useful INFOGRAPHIC that gives examples of censored music and the reasons behind the censorship.
