Description

Students will read about the purchase of Alaska during Reconstruction and excerpts of its official cession, answer 16 questions of varying levels of difficulty, and analyze 5 images according to provided prompts. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--Why would the American people not have viewed this purchase too highly before the discovery of gold?
--If Russia had discovered the gold first, do you think it would have sold the territory? Why or why not?
--Why would such effort have been taken in the second paragraph of Article 1 in describing the boundaries rather than just saying the Alaska territory?
--Summarize the main points of Article II in 3 sentences or less.
--List and explain 1 pro and 1 con for the inhabitants were they to choose to stay in America.
--Using context clues or prior knowledge, what does "appurtenances" mean?
