Description

What would Lincoln and Davis tweet about their ideas on liberty, equality, union and government? This is a fun way to imagine these two men getting their message out to the people during the Civil War.

In this lesson, students will read/analyze short primary source quotes from the inaugural addresses of both Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis. They will then summarize their their ideas about liberty, union, equality and government (one quote for each theme) by creating a "tweet" from that person. They will add a hashtag for each tweet at the end.

This is a great way to compare the two sides/men - by seeing their tweets side by side.

You will receive:

-student copy of assignment (2 pages - you copy front to back)

-key (my suggestions for tweets, but students will come up with better ones!)
