FREE Gibberish Game / Create Nonsense Words

Want to break the ice with a new school year of students?

Or to give your learners a break in their day?

This fun freebie might be the trick!

For teachers: It's up to you how you facilitate this. Have individuals create definitions to share in group, or groups define each word to share as a class, or some other way! You may need to provide your own goofy examples, and definitely be clear what rules should apply (e.g. no sexual language or insults that could hurt someone, etc.). I've provided examples also.

The purpose: FUN! Of course, this could also help learners read letter sounds and assist in handwriting skills, but this is a supplemental game, not a lesson or assessment by any means. Definitions will vary and there are no right or wrong answers (outside of the parameters you set). Emphasize not making fun of others pronouncing these made-up words.

I've provided 5 sheets with lists of 15 gibberish words (3 per page) and lines to have definitions written. Make as many copies as you need to accommodate how you'll facilitate this. I've provided a page with my own definitions, which you can use aloud as examples. You'll also find a blank lined sheet to have students create their own words! Copy it as needed.
