Description

These 40 writing prompts for Medieval History (the Middle Ages) cover Byzantines and Slavs, Islam, the Rise of Medieval Europe, and Medieval Europe at its Height. They are a combination of academic, what if, opinion questions, and creative tasks with visual components. This would be great for a sub!

--Had the Nika Revolt been successful, what might that have meant for both the immediate and long term future of the Byzantine Empire?
--You are a fly on the wall at the Council of Nicaea. Write a historically plausible dialogue exchange between 5 representatives and one reply to each piece of dialogue. So you must write 10 statements/questions total (5 original pieces of dialogue and 1 reply to each).

--Compare and contrast the purposes of Makkah and Madinah and their roles in Islamic history and culture.
--List the 5 Pillars of Islam and explain what each pillar requires. Which pillar do you think would be easiest to follow and why? Which do you think might be the most difficult to abide by and why?

-- Draw a diagram of a castle and its main parts (moat, keep, bailey, etc). List and explain 3 positives to living in a castle and 3 negatives to living in a castle. Explain why castles decreased in popularity/frequency of use over the centuries.
--Was the Magna Carta or the Concordat of Worms more important during this time period and why? Which is more important today and why?

--Pick 3 effects of the Crusades on Europe and thoroughly explain what they were. Would Europe be what it is today if not for the Crusades, why or why not?
--Who was Joan of Arc? Will (or should) she still be in history books in 200 years, why or why not?
