Description

The 7 Continents - Lessons and Activity

The main goal of this lesson is to have students become proficient in identifying the seven continents, and to be able to assess the advantages and disadvantages of living on each of these continents

This lesson has been updated for distance learning. Students can complete and submit all activities on any device using the fillable PDF files!

What you get:

- An 18 slide PowerPoint with: Do Now, Class Notes with an overview of each continent, 2 video links, Assessment tasks, 3 Versions of an Activity and a Conclusion Question

Activity Option 1 (Shortened Version)

Students will receive a box chart with key facts about each of the continents. These notes are in bullet form and should be quicker and easier to get through than option 2. This description will include information such as: population, climate, landforms, cultures, important history, and economy.

Students will be given a graphic organizer, where they will need to rank the continent on which is the best/hardest to live in (1 – Best – 7 – Hardest) and provide evidence and explanations for their reasoning.

Activity Option 2 – (Longer Version)

Instead of receiving a box chart with the facts already written. Students will receive a packet with readings about the seven continents. The will then use a slightly different organizer to write down important information such as: population, climate, landforms, cultures, important history and economy. After this step, they will then rank the continent on which is the best/hardest to live in (1 – Best – 7 – Hardest) and provide evidence and explanation for their reasoning.

(While no key is provided for the ranking part of this activity, the resource used for the shortened version can be used as a key for option 2 to assess the information that students chose from the reading)

Activity Option 3 – Guess the Continent Worksheet

Students can use either the chart from option 1, or the readings from option 2 to complete the “Guess the Continent” worksheet where they will be given a brief description of each continent and need to guess which one it is.

Full Key is provided for each activity option!
