Description

Struggling to help your students understand the science and engineering principles behind your STEM activities? This project will help!

Here is a simple and easy-to-do project (for home or school) that requires few materials and INSTANTLY communicates an engineering principle regarding shape strength.

What you get:

  • Teacher instructions
  • Student instructions (both a long form and a paper-conserving form)
  • Teacher explanation
  • Student reading passage with vocabulary
  • Student worksheet (based on experiment and reading passage)
  • Answer Key

Your students will be better engineers after doing this project. The knowledge gained will inform other STEM and engineering activities in your class and beyond.

This is a hands-on lab that is incredibly easy for a teacher to implement. If you assign this for homework, parents will enjoy seeing kids doing an actual experiment at home and watching the surprising results.

Your students will love doing this. In the process, they'll learn about forces in engineering and architecture that they'll see, understand and retain.

This experiment works very well for distance learning and remote learning since the few required materials are items that students already have in their homes.

    STEM Science for FUN!

Posted by Matthew F on Jul 7th 2020

Although I am an ELA teacher, I assist my daughter with home schooling my grandchildren. I have to say that this was one of the most enjoyable lessons my granddaughter has experienced in Science! She loved the activities that are central to the lesson, and also loved the extensions, researching the building materials of ancient civilization. Thank you!

    Loved the Opening Activity!

The opening activity was excellent. The students remembered the experimental part of the learning, and then they made more connections with the notes that followed.
