Description

This game has been devised for our children to play to review a whole host of maths skills learnt in class.

The game is designed for 4th, 5th and 6th graders and can be played by 2 - 8 children.

Full instructions for setting up, preparing the resources and playing the game are included.

The aim is for the children to collect 14 different maths cards by moving their game pieces around the designed board, picking up cards and identifying answers to a range of questions from many different math topics. Players must avoid hazards in the game, like getting lost in Mathematical Maze and missing a go, being sent to The Mathematical Maze, or landing on squares which instructs the players to give a card to another player. Other squares allow players to collect the cards they need from their opponents, as well as selecting other cards they need from the centre squares.

Four areas of math are explored within the game, and before players can collect cards they must answers correctly. The 14 topics explored within the game are:

  • 2D shape
  • 3D shape
  • Identifying 2D and 3D shapes through reading a series of clues - What am I?
  • Fractions of amounts
  • Decimals of amounts
  • Percentages of amounts
  • Equivalency of fractions, decimals and percentages
  • Addition of tens, hundreds, thousands and decimals
  • Subtraction of tens, hundreds, thousands and decimals
  • Multiplication
  • Division
  • Place Value, multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000
  • Place Value, dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 (including decimals)

Each of the four groups of questions have spare cards for teachers to be able to add their own questions.

The maths questions have been split into four categories and associated colours:

  • Shape (red)
  • Fractions, decimals and percentages (blue)
  • Place value (green)
  • Number (Yellow)

This game can be a valuable asset to your classroom resources, Math Activity Center or those moments when you just need something to do when the weather is bad!
