Description

Students read a brief background of the Boxer Rebellion during European Imperialism and a woman's account of her experience in China while this was happening. They answer 14 questions, complete a creative task, and analyze 4 images. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.

Sample questions include:
--Why did China find itself as an area of interest during Imperialism, and by whom?
--Who wrote the Open Door Policy and what was its goal?
--Is "Boxer Rebellion" the best phrase to refer to this event as, why or why not? If not, what would more accurately describe it from your point of view?
--Compare and contrast what Luella might have felt and thought when the "horrible noise" began to when it "suddenly ceased."
--Inferring from the text, how safe do you think she felt in the compound and why?
