You are purchasing a Harlem Renaissance Figures Gallery Walk activity! Use this activity to introduce your students to some of the Harlem Renaissance Key Figures and the work that they are famous for creating! (Included: Langston HughesBessie SmithZora Neale HurstonClaude McKayDuke EllingtonAaron Douglas, and Louis Armstrong)

 Specifically you will get:

  • A full- color with links (and QR Codes) set of Gallery Walk "Museum-Like" Exhibits on 7 key figures from the Harlem Renaissance. Students can either view the Gallery Walk digitally (online) or you can tape the paper version of the Gallery Walk “stations” (1 station per Harlem Renaissance Figure) on different walls of your classroom for students to walk around and view like a museum exhibit- YOUR CHOICE! (Both versions included)
  • A corresponding Gallery Walk Student Chart- students will answer questions about each exhibit and record the answers on their chart!
  • Extension Activity # 1- Harlem Renaissance Figures Word Sort Students match up the 25 key terms provided by either color coding them with colored pencils OR by cutting out the 25 term boxes and physically matching them up on their desks! Both are fun and allow you to assess how much your students know/have learned about the 7 figures!
  • Extension Activity # 2- Create!- My Song of the Towers Painting!This activity allows students to get creative and use what they learned about the art of Aaron Douglas to Recreate the Song of the Towers mural, adding symbols and images that they feel illustrate the issues facing teens today!
  • Extension Activity # 3- Write! My “I too” Poem- This activity allows students to get creative and use what they learned about the poetry of Langston Hughes to write their own version of the poem using the directions provided!
