Sentence Construction "Misfit Sentence Board Game"

This game has been devised for our children to play to learn how sentences are constructed and develop a wider vocabulary through the provision of words cards within nouns, verbs, adverbs and object word cards.

The game is designed for 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders, however, due to the learning objective, younger children can easily play the game once they can read the word cards with independence, and for older children who require additional support in sentence construction work.

The game can be played with 2 - 6 children.

The aim is for the children to build as many sentences as they can by travelling around the game board, landing on specific coloured squares and collecting the word cards from the four categories of noun, verb, adverb and object. Along the way, they must avoid hazards in the game, like getting lost in The Forest of Fiction and missing a go, being sent to The Forest of Fiction, or landing on squares which instructs the players to give a card to another player. Other squares allow players to collect the cards they need from their opponents, as well as selecting other cards they need from the centre square.

Word classes within the game are as follows:

• nouns
• verbs
• adverbs
• objects

The game is completed when all of the word cards have been used from the centre of the board. The winner is the player to have completed the most sentences.
