Description

Students analyze 10 text excerpts and 7 images related to the Red Scare of the 1920s and McCarthyism (1950s Red Scare). More of the sources are about the 1950s Red Scare. There are 35 questions for students to answer of varying degrees of difficulty and are a combination of academic and opinion based. The answers are included and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
—What assumption does Palmer make about “Reds?”
—Does William White support or oppose the Palmer Raids? Cite evidence form the text to support your answer.
—Which quote does image C most directly reflect and why?
—Explain the meaning of Reagan’s reference to the fifth column.
—Identify what Robeson sees as the true fight in America in 1949.
—Rewrite Murrow’s 1954 excerpt in your own words to demonstrate understanding.
—Identify McCarthy’s main point from his 1953 excerpt.
—Summarize the message of image E and explain how it connects to the 1950s Red Scare.
