Description
Target learning: Investigate adaptations that help animals and plants survive.
Students will perform this lab in pairs to time each other to do tasks that can be completed with and then without thumbs. Students will get to live through an environmental change and see if they can adapt to survive. Adaptations are only inherited through generations so animals that don’t adapt will perish
In this engaging activity, students will investigate how thumbs are a useful adaptation that help us survive after completing different tasks without the use of their thumb. Organisms that survive have adaptations that help them find food, escape predators, hold water, catch prey, and in general thrive in their environment. Thumbs are an adaptive characteristic that help manipulate and pick through items, a useful structure to find and acquire food.
