This lesson focuses on Colonial Art, emphasizing the art historical thinking skills of compare and contrast and cross-cultural influences. Students will learn about the Virgin of Guadalupe, Screen with the Siege of Belgrade and Hunting Scene, Angel with Arquebus, Spaniard and Indian Produce a Mestizo, and Portrait of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. In addition to learning about form, function, content, and context, students will be pushed to analyze art from Colonial art. This lesson is packed full of discussion questions. At the end of this lesson, students will complete a compare and contrast writing prompt (FRQ 1).
