You are purchasing a creative activity on the Economics topic of Market Regulation, Monopolies and Anti- Trust Laws.

 Essential Question: How is the Free Market regulated? How do Anti-trust Laws protect consumers and promote competition?

 In this lesson students will:

1) Complete a warm-up activity in which they are introduced to the Sherman Ant-Trust Act, Clayton Act and the Federal Trade Commission Act.

2) Read an article and complete Cornell Notes on the topic of “Protecting Consumers in the Free Market System: How do Anti-Trust Acts protect me?”

3) Examine a recent press release about a well-known company to understand how Anti-trust laws work in the real world.

4) Culminating Project. Create a poster in which they represent the Department of Justice in their attempt to investigate Anti-trust violators. Students will pretend that they work for the Department of Justice and have been assigned the job of educating the public on the following concepts:

  • all U.S. residents can help promote free competition by reporting violators
  • some violations citizens can look for and report (Using the Anti-trust laws in effect)
  • how to report a violation
  • what information should you include in your report when you report a violation

 In order to inform and educate the public, students will be creating a poster that can be posted all over the U.S. to introducing the public to this important information.
